CMHA recognizes International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

This May 17, CMHA Champlain East joins individuals and organizations worldwide to recognize International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB).

The 2SLGBTQIA+ community faces a range of mental health challenges due to societal stigma, discrimination, and lack of acceptance. These challenges can include higher rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation compared to the general population. However, as people around the globe unite to observe a day of solidarity, advocacy, and celebration, it presents an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals face. These challenges include discrimination, violence, and marginalization.

FOURTH Annual Zumba PLUS Fundraising Event:
Friday, May 19th, 2017
Booths: 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Paint Nite: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

You are invited to a fundraising evening that I will be hosting with another local Zumba instructor, Adele Wilson. This event is in the works and details are almost ready to share to the public. The potential location for this event is Bridgewood Public School (new school built on the corner of Marleau and Nick Kaneb) where we are hoping to have Sip n’ Scoop, pizza and other food options available all night. This location has a huge common area space where the Paint Nite, food and booths can be all in the same space!

There are 2 goals to this event; one is to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association / Champlain East (CMHA) and the other is to raise awareness about mental health. We want to "Be the Change" while also having fun and pampering ourselves! The Zumba community lost a dear friend and Zumba instructor Monique Rozon to mental illness in 2014, we are hosting this event in her honor again.

Last year’s event was a great success thanks to each and every one of you! A lot of money was raised and given to our local CMHA. Despite its success, we will do even better this year!

At the event, our participants will be invited to come and enhance their mental health and wellbeing for the evening. They will have options to get services like a massage, have their hair done, get their nails done, learn something new, make something, do some exercise like yoga or boot camp, shop ;).... anything that would make them feel happy!!

Two ways to get involved:
1-Offer a service.......you will be providing a service to the customers that will enhance their mental health and they will be paying a donation of $5 for this service. All funds collected will be donated to CMHA.
2-Donate $80…you will showcase your business and sell your items where all money made is yours. All funds collected ($80 donation) will be donated to CMHA.

*******MAYBE WE CAN SAVE SOMEONE THAT IS LIVING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IF THEY FIND PEACE AND HAPPINESS THROUGH SOMETHING THEY SEE ON THIS SPECIAL NIGHT.

We hope that you will consider helping us to "be the change". If you are interested in joining us for this great evening.... you can contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
