CMHA celebrates National Volunteer Week 2024

This week, CMHA Champlain East joins organizations across the country in celebrating Canada’s 13 million volunteers during National Volunteer Week. This year’s theme is “Every Moment Matters.” It highlights the importance of every volunteer and each contribution they make at a moment when we need support more than ever. The sharing of time, skills, empathy, and creativity is vital to the inclusivity, strength, and wellbeing of our communities.

Volunteers play a crucial role in our organization and our community. Without the dedication of volunteers, many programs offered by our branch would not be possible.

From all of us at CMHA Champlain East, thank you to the amazing volunteers we work with every day. We truly appreciate your dedication in helping us work towards good mental health for all.

Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help. Often these opportunities are missed, dismissed or avoided - leaving people more alone and at greater risk. safeTALK training prepares you to help by using TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to identify and engage people with thoughts of suicide and to connect them with further help and care.

 safeTALK is for everybody who wants to help prevent suicide; front line workers, clergy, volunteers, parents, youth (15 years and older), teachers, law enforcement.

 The cost for the half-day workshop is $67.80 ($60.00 + HST).

  •  Date to be determined

 suicideTALK: An exploration in suicide awareness

suicideTALK is a session that invites interested community members to become more aware of suicide prevention opportunities in their community. Dealing openly with the stigma around suicide, this exploration focuses upon the question, "Should we talk about suicide?"

As a suicideTALK-informed session member, you will be better able to:

  • understand how personal and community beliefs about suicide affect suicide stigma and safety;
  • appreciate how the steps taught in safeTALK can be used to help prevent suicide;
  • choose among ways to help protect, preserve and promote life in a suicide-safer community.
