The Canadian Mental Health Association - Champlain East is a community-based agency dedicated to providing community support services to persons living with a mental illness and concurrent disorders.  Our Branch has been designated under the French Language Services Act since 1991 and as such, is committed to providing services in both official languages (French and English).

Resource Center Facilitator

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:         To facilitate, support and empower persons with a severe and/or persistent mental illness / concurrent disorder or socially isolated individuals to improve their quality of life.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:                          Program Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Requirements:

  • College diploma in the social science, health or recreation field and two years of experience working with people with emotional or psychiatric difficulties or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders and addictions
  • Familiarity with Recovery Philosophy and awareness of needs of diverse communities is an asset
  • Knowledge of the social services and/or health field, including local resources
  • Well organized and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some evening and weekend hours may be required)

 

Language:

  • Proficiency in both official languages is a requirement as per the Branch’s French Language Designation Plan

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Experience in facilitation, coaching, teaching wellness, life skills and social skills
  • Demonstrated abilities in working with minimum supervision, working alone and as part of a team
  • Experience and comfort in public speaking
  • Awareness of local community resources
  • Ability to organize time and prioritize tasks to achieve objectives, demonstrating organization, planning & coordination skills
  • Ability to deal tactfully with a diverse group of people internally and externally
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in virtual platforms such as MS Teams
  • Demonstrates initiative when appropriate and is willing to learn new skills
  • Demonstrated ability to observe boundaries, engage in appropriate emotional regulation, refrain from dual relationship with clients / volunteers
  • Engage in reasonable self-care strategies that incorporate balancing work/life responsibilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision making skills

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

 Program 

  • Facilitate opportunities for clients to network and develop skills and attitudes which enable them to attain and maintain the highest quality of life available to them in their community
  • Facilitate planning, promotion and delivery of prepared information sessions to inform the community of the program and improve community sensitivity/acceptance of individuals experiencing mental health problems
  • Facilitate training opportunities for clients to develop practical skills in the areas of self help and support
  • Facilitate the operation of a Resource Centre within health and safety guidelines
  • Purchase supplies and maintain inventory for program services and activities
  • Empower and encourage clients in the development of recreational, educational and informational opportunities by responding to their needs
  • Maintain appropriate documentation as per Branch protocols
  • May be assigned a lead role for special projects/programs within the same job classification (i.e. Caseworks, promotional/educational events, committees, groups, etc.)
